Notes

A special tax status for retirees administered by Malta's Commissioner for Revenue. Foreign pension income remitted to Malta is taxed at a flat 15%, subject to a minimum annual tax of €7,500 plus €500 per dependent. The applicant's foreign pension must make up at least 75% of chargeable income. Property requirement: buy from €275,000 in Malta (€220,000 in Gozo or the South), or rent from €9,600/yr (€8,750 in Gozo/South). Presence rules: at least 90 days a year in Malta averaged over five years, and no more than 183 days in any other country. EU/Schengen access; not a route to citizenship.
