Notes
The D8 comes in two forms: a temporary-stay visa (up to 1 year) and a residence visa leading to a renewable permit. Requires proof of remote income of roughly €3,680/month (four times the Portuguese minimum wage), +50% for a spouse and +30% per child, plus accommodation and health cover. The residence track leads to PR at 5 years; citizenship moved from 5 to 10 years under the 2026 nationality law. Portugal taxes residents on worldwide income — the old NHR regime has been replaced by a narrower incentive.
